Guest: Jeff White, Archaeologist and Educator, Archaeology, Can You Dig It?

Jeff founded Archaeology, Can You Dig It? in 2009 in his hometown of Columbus, Ohio. By that time, Jeff had worked as an archaeologist for many years, all across the United States. Jeff realized that almost none of the other archaeologists he'd worked with looked like him – in fact, he'd only encountered seven other African-Americans in the field of archaeology during that time. He realized that if he was to truly make a difference in his chosen field, he needed to introduce kids of all ages, backgrounds, ethnicities, and cultures to anthropology and archaeology - disciplines that tell the story of humanity as a whole and that truly benefit from having students from diverse backgrounds, with a variety of perspectives. Jeff recognized that he also needed to make his programming easily accessible for schools and community groups of all kinds. With that,. “Archaeology, Can You Dig It?”, a fully-mobile archaeology outreach program, was born!

Jeff holds a B.A. in Anthropology/Archaeology and has more than 16 years of experience working in the field of archaeology, having taught kids in traditional school settings, working in children's museums as a science educator and program manager, and collaborated with colleagues from the University of California Berkeley, the Ohio History Connection, and the Society of American Archaeologists.

Moderator: Bruce Walters, MS, CBA

Bruce is a Certified Business Advisor for the Ohio Small Business Development Center at Columbus State Community College, where he manages the intake process for new clients, and provides marketing, operations, and general advising services for established businesses. Bruce’s experience is predominately in insurance, human resources, entertainment, and non-profit administration. Bruce holds an associate degree in art from City College of San Francisco, a bachelor’s degree in art history from the University of California Berkeley, and a master’s degree in marketing and communications from Franklin University.
