Understanding Ohio Sales & Use Tax
Kick off National Small Business Week with a workshop on Ohio Sales & Use Tax. Ohio’s Sales and Use Tax for Small Businesses: The Basics Sales and Use tax questions arise frequently when starting a small business or operating one. As a result, The Small Business Development Center at Lorain County Community college has invited the Ohio Department of Taxation to present on general sales and use tax laws with examples of common industries. Over the course of this 60-minute webinar, we will be discussing: • General Sales and Use Tax: Overview of sales and use tax, taxable services and common exemptions. • Online nationwide sales: Nexus Standards and Streamline Sales Tax. • Crafts for sale: Requirements for craft shows, online sales and sales through a marketplace facilitator. • Landscaping, Lawn Care Services, and Snow Removal: Activities common to the industry and if they are considered “landscaping and lawn care services” or “snow removal services. • Food Definition: On premise vs. off premise. What items are categorized as food and which items are categorized as non-food. • Consulting/Professional services: What services are not taxable and the new update to personal care services. • Ohio’s new OH/Tax eServices platform: How to apply for vendor’s license and how to file and pay the tax return. Joseph Swartz is a Tax Program Assistant Administrator of the Business Tax Division for ODT. Amanda Fletcher is a Tax Examiner Manager of the Business Tax Division for ODT. Both are eager to work with their customers clarifying the intricacies of the Ohio Sales and Use Tax provisions.
